Innovation 2022

Celebrating and Invigorating Student Innovation at Warwick

Warwick Enterprise supports students and graduates to develop their entrepreneurial skills and provide access to schemes and programmes that can incubate a breadth of ideas. We’re committed to furthering our contribution to the Warwick Education and Employability strategies in creative and effective ways. We’re also navigating the Knowledge Exchange agenda and trying to better understand how we contribute, and how we can best support our colleagues.

As one of four the pillars of the University Strategy 2030, the Innovation Strategy launched in January 2020. In September 2020 each academic department published a summary of how they approach and support student innovation. Naturally, 2020 / 2021 focussed on delivering education digitally and more recently embracing the hybrid model.

Warwick Enterprise is now keen to support each department to further develop their approaches that accelerate student innovation; whether this be building on existing opportunities or creating something new.

The Opportunity?

Warwick Enterprise has allocated up to £1k for each academic department to co-develop and deliver a range of different possibilities between January - June 2022. The funds can be applied in a number of different ways . . examples include:

  • Bespoke development programmes
  • Faculty or discipline innovation related events and projects, such as competitions or hackathons
  • Guest speaker events
  • Bursaries for start-up internships
  • Enabling diversity and inclusion, supporting opportunities for particular groups
  • Access to online courses (where there is a cost attached)
  • Showcasing and publishing current student and graduate success stories

The Benefits?

The ARC planning process naturally asks each department to consider each strand of University Strategy 2030. We'd be delighted to engage in a dialogue with colleagues at this stage in the academic year about 'Innovation' that may include some or all of the following benefits:

  • Stimulate the development and delivery of department or faculty focussed opportunities for students to develop their enterprising interests and / or capabilities (funded and supported by Warwick Enterprise)
  • Showcase student innovation (to be published in our end of year Festival, and through departmental channels)
  • Celebrate and showcase teaching of innovation (to be published in our end of year Festival, and through departmental channels)
  • Discuss the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF)Link opens in a new window & Knowledge Exchange Concordat (KEC) Link opens in a new windowand identify any opportunities for students and / or education more broadly, and explore how we could work together on this
  • Explore innovation in the context of Curriculum Review
  • Create a dedicated web page on the department's website (as appropriate), linking directly to institutional provision to support student innovation
  • Revisit and refresh Departmental profile as published on the student innovation @warwick internal resource
  • Connect with our team of Innovation Fellows Link opens in a new windowand build student co-design and co-delivery into any developments
  • Illuminate how student engagement in innovation can support employability & skills
