Ann joined the Institute for Advanced Study in June 2016 as Programme Coordinator and is responsible for the operational management of the schemes offered by the Institute, including the Visiting Fellow programmes alongside a range of activities to support interdisciplinary engagement across academics units at Warwick.

Ann has previously worked in academic departments at the University, in both undergraduate and postgraduate administrative roles, then moving to Research & Impact Services in 2012, to work as a Departmental Administrative Officer. Previously Ann was seconded to the Vice Chancellors Office as a Personal Assistant and to the RCUK Catalyst Seed Fund Project for Public Engagement with Research as a Project Administrator.

John Burden is the Research Strategy and Programme Manager for the Institute of Advanced Study and works with the Director to develop and oversee the implementation of a broad-ranging research strategy capable of delivering the Institute’s internal engagement and external funding priorities. He also has overall responsibility for the administrative operations of the IAS and for coordinating the delivery of its diverse portfolio of initiatives.

John completed a PhD in Biological Sciences at Warwick in 1996 and, after a research career in academia and industry, returned to Warwick in 2010, spending six years working in research development before joining the IAS in early 2016

Rachel Hitchcox

Programme Coordinator Rachel Hitchcox is responsible for the operational management of the schemes offered by the Institute, including the Visiting Fellow programmes alongside a suite of activities to support interdisciplinary engagement across academics units at Warwick. Rachel joined the IAS in March 2015. Rachel has worked at the University of Warwick since 2008, where she joined the Human Resources department before moving to Sociology as the Department Secretary. From there, Rachel went on to work as the Faculty Secretary for Social Sciences and as Personal Assistant to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christina Hughes. Prior to joining the IAS, Rachel was part of the team managing the coordination of the FP7 EU funded project, GR:EEN (Global Re-ordering: Evolution through European Networks), a project involving 16 European partners which successfully concluded in February 2015.

Having taken early retirement from a 30+ year career at Warwickshire County Council (latterly as HR consultant), Tina joined the University in May 2014 working as part-time administrator at the IAS. She undertakes general administration including administration for the Visiting Fellow and Residential fellow programmes, IAS seminar room bookings, data collection and finance-related matters.

Gareth joined the Institute in April 2018 as Senior Editor for the Exchanges interdisciplinary journal. He recently completed a culture, communications and social theory PhD, constructing an ethnographically framed ideological critique of the cultural effects on emerging open scholarly communication models. Gareth continues to maintain an active research interest in the political economy of open access publishing. He is a HEA Fellow, along with being a past Chair of the UK Council for Research Repositories, and the Forum for Interlending and Information Delivery.

In keeping with IAS’ interdisciplinary ethos, Gareth also holds degrees in biomedical technology, information management and research practice. He has previously worked within copyright, intellectual property, open access, academic librarianship, project management and data governance roles. Additionally, he served as a communications and media lecturer at Nottingham Trent University, and was a research innovation officer for Warwick’s Library. He currently also executive manages the Mercian Collaboration, an academic library coalition with 23 institutional members.

Abbie joined the IAS in March 2016 as a part-time Administrative Assistant. She is responsible for disseminating IAS news and advertising IAS events through the quarterly Newsletter, twitter account and website. She also assists in the production of the IAS Annual Report and the co-ordination of the ACE programme . Additionally Abbie gives administrative support to events including the Annual Symposium.

Professor Peter Scott

Professor Scott was appointed to Director of the Institute in September 2017. He joined Warwick’s Department of Chemistry in 1997 as a Lecturer and has served in a variety of roles for the department and university and is a Royal Society Industry Fellow. Peter is also the founder and scientific director of the Warwick spin-out Interface Polymers Ltd. Educated at Salford and Oxford he undertook post-doctoral work at Universität Konstanz in Germany and Sussex University, holding a Royal Society European Research Fellowship and the Ramsay Memorial Fellowship. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Chair of the National Chemical Database Service Advisory Board. He leads collaborative interdisciplinary research in two areas: the discovery of self-assembling molecules as antimicrobials and cancer medicines, and interfacially-active polyolefin materials for industry.

Becky joined the Institute as Research Officer in September 2015, before being promoted to Programme Manger in April 2018. Her role includes managing the Early Career and WIRL-COFUND Fellowship schemes, leading the Institute's training programmes, and coordinating the Insitute's events - including the Annual Symposium. Becky is also responsible for maintaining the Institute's social and printed media.

Becky successfully completed a PhD in Chemistry at Warwick in October 2014, designing, synthesising and testing new anticancer drugs. She was then awarded an Early Career Fellowship with the Institute of Advanced Study to build an independent research profile until July 2015. From October 2014 to April 2016 Becky also held a Teaching Fellowship in the Department of Chemistry, where she managed a schools outreach project.
