Warwick Shakespeare Scholars Get Going

Shakespeare experts from across disciplines at Warwick University have met up for a lively planning session for the module that will be delivered in the second semester/term of the taught Global Shakespeare Masters programme. This was an exciting moment for Global Shakespeare as it began to fulfil its aims of bringing together different academics in order to create an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Shakespeare.

Academics who will be involved in teaching this module include Dr Paul Prescott, Professor Carol Rutter, Professor Tony Howard and Dr Steve Purcell of the English Department, Professor Jonathan Needlands from Warwick Business School and Dr Nick Monk, Deputy Director of Warwick's Institute of Advanced Teaching & Learning along with the newly appointed Academic Director for Global Shakespeare, Professor David Schalkwyk.

The module entitled "Practices of Translation: Or How to Do Things with Shakespeare" will be team delivered and so will allow students to benefit from the strengths in performance criticism, literary translation and active pedagogy that is particularly well developed at Warwick University . The teaching style will build on the track record of experiential learning developed by initiatives such as The Capital Centre which partnered the RSC and is designed to allow students to experiment, as practitioners themselves, with different models of translation and to develop a deep understanding Shakespeare as a global cultural phenomenon.
