The Science of Music - A blog by Angel Addo (UG Life Sciences)

Students from IATL's Science of Music module visited the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire last term as part of IATL's new collaboration with students and staff from the Conservatoire. Several students from the Conservatoire took the opportunity to do a work placement as part of their studies by supporting Warwick staff on the module while, in return, Warwick students were able to explore the different musical performance spaces and acoustics in the new Conservatoire building. Angel Addo blogged the day.

Our success at the Resonate festival

IATL's Science of Music module inspired an event "Resonate: a string, a concert hall, a universe" at the Resonate festival. Some demonstrations were based on module's student projects and some involved balloons - always fun! The atmosphere was great, and it received lots of praise from the attendees. The performance with elements of electronic music and physics demonstrations was talking about resonance in physics and music and was developed by the team from Physics Department: Oksana Trushkevych, Gavin Bell, Rachel Edwards, Tim Cunnimgham and Sue Burrows - the team behind the IATL's Science of Music. *The link below is to the Resonate section on WIE website, scrolling down there are photos from our event (with balloons). The uploaded photo is chosen as the slide mentions the student project. Feel free to choose other photos if they will work better (there are some nice ones with the audience - or with three presenters.
