I mentioned this to a few people at today's session, but in Japan, they go to concerts to watch cartoon holograms with synthesised voices perform (with real people playing the instruments). It's quite interesting to listen to, and watch!

Thanks Catherine - that's interesting. The Vocaloid voice synthesiser behind all these works (I think) by concatenation of many short sounds, i.e. mainly in the time-domain. It's usually called "granular synthesis", yet another class of synthesis approaches that we didn't touch on in the session.
