Winners of the WBS & IATL Playwriting Competition Announced!
Earlier this Summer WBS Create, in partnership with the IATL strategic projects funded initiative Playwriting at Warwick launched a playwriting competition for University of Warwick students. The challenge was to submit a play, of between 7 and 10 minutes in duration, based on one of the School’s cases. The case in question was based on the Bhopal disaster. We were thrilled by both the number, and quality, of plays submitted. The panel certainly had its work cut out for it selecting the winners, that said they are:
First place
Phoebe McIndoe, Year 2 English and Theatre – Babu’s Fountain
Join runner up
Namita Cariappa, Year 3 Management – Obligation or No Obligation
Matt Toms, MSc in Business – The Bhopal Disaster – Five Conversations
Special mention
Sam George, Year 1 Theatre and Performance Studies - It Is Not Our Business
The plays from the winner and runners up will be used in teaching here in WBS next year (they will be used in Critical Issues in Law and Management, IB3A2) and we look forward to inviting Phoebe, Namita and Matt to see them being performed by our students in the classroom.
On the basis of the success of the competition this year, we hope to be able to run it again in 2014/15.
