International Student Research Project (ISRP)

The WorldCUR-BCUR Committee were very interested to provide opportunities for students to network and research together before the Conference and to share their findings at WorldCUR-BCUR.

To achieve this, we created the International Student Research Project (ISRP) to bring together students from across the world to devise, undertake and present a research project of their choice. We were also particularly keen to support postgraduate students to acquire supervision experience.

Student researchers from different institutions and countries were formed into seven interdisciplinary, international teams, each team supported by two co-supervisors (one an established academic and one a postgraduate doctoral student) and based around one of our interdisciplinary conference themes.

Whilst many of our ISRP students will be attending WorldCUR-BCUR in person, others are unable to travel internationally as part of their studies but still wanted to experience working in teams with students from different universities, to build international networks and to raise intercultural awareness.

The innovative ISRP model is a low-cost, easily replicable ‘internationalisation at home’ format, which enables students to undertake international research projects and build international connections and intercultural awareness despite restrictions on their mobility. The projects have also developed the skills and employability of both the student researchers and the novice postgraduate supervisors.

The ISRP would not have happened without the support of Dr Maher Khelifa (Qatar University) Professor Julio Rivera (Carroll University), Professor Maria Iacullo-Bird (Pace University) and Dr Jane Bryan (University of Warwick) and the amazing ISRP students and supervisors.
