Who is your scientific inspiration and why?

In three words or phrases how would you describe your supervision style?

Supportive, organised, collaborative.

In one or two sentences please describe your strategies regarding the following.
Provision of training:

Your training in the lab will be carried out by myself or other experience research group members. You will be given access to other online and in person training courses as required. I will help you develop your scientific writing skills as the project progresses.

Progression monitoring and management:

We will meet regularly and agree short- and long-term goals for your programme of work. We will then review your progress to meeting these goals and adjust as appropriate. I will encourage you to gain leadership over your project with time and to being to set your own goals for your work.

Communication:

My team will communicate regularly by face-2-face meetings but we will also communicate regularly by email. The team also has a WhatsApp group for less formal communications we use during the week and weekends but I will not expect you to reply outside of working hours. If you feel you would like to discus other aspects of your PhD life with someone else there will be other PhD students, Post Docs and the Director of Postgraduate Research for you to contact.

How often do your PhD students see you in a timetabled group meeting?

At least once per fortnight

In year 1 of PhD study, how often do your PhD students have a scheduled >30 minute 1:1 meeting with you?

At least once per fortnight

In year 2 of PhD study, how often do your PhD students have a scheduled >30 minute 1:1 meeting with you?

At least once per fortnight

In year 3 of PhD study, how often do your PhD students have a scheduled >30 minute 1:1 meeting with you?

At least once per fortnight

What form do your 1:1 meetings with PhD students take?

Face to face (if allowed under current health and safety advice)

Open door policy?

Yes, I am usually contactable for an instant response 3 or 4 days per week.

My expectation of PhD student working patterns?

The timing of work in my lab is completely flexible, and (other than attending pre-arranged meetings), I expect students to manage their own time.

Notice for feedback (e.g. on reports, manuscript drafts, thesis chapters)?

I need at least 2 week’s notice to provide feedback on written work of up to 5000 words.
