Who is your scientific inspiration and why?

Daniel Kahneman – enjoy thinking and always curious. Avoid complex scientific jargon – very down to earth.

In three words or phrases how would you describe your supervision style?

Supportive, engaged, approachable, curiosity driven, occasionally hands on.

In one or two sentences please describe your strategies regarding the following.
Provision of training:

I will share with the student’s knowledge and skill I have, and will hope they will gain additional skills to be able to train and teach me. In other words, training is a collaborative process.

Progression monitoring and management:

We will have weekly meeting to catch up, though level of support will large depend on demand on style. We will set out annual mile stones to ensure the work is completed on time.

Communication:

There are multiple communication channels available. We will work through Slack, e-mails and shared cloud drive.

How often do your PhD students see you in a timetabled group meeting?

We have a group meeting every two weeks, we will meet once a week for ongoing issues, but flexible and based on demand.

In year 1 of PhD study, how often do your PhD students have a scheduled >30 minute 1:1 meeting with you?

At least once per week

In year 2 of PhD study, how often do your PhD students have a scheduled >30 minute 1:1 meeting with you?

Often once per week – depends on needs

Often once per week – depends on needs

What form do your 1:1 meetings with PhD students take?

A mixture of face to face or via video chat.

Open door policy?

Yes, I have an open door policy, students can just pop to my office..

My expectation of PhD student working patterns?

Flexible working arrangement. If there is no data to be collected or meeting to attend the student is free to work in their prefer space in their preferred time. 

Notice for feedback (e.g. on reports, manuscript drafts, thesis chapters)?

I need at least 2 weeks notice to provide feedback on written work of up to 5000 words.
