In one or two sentences please describe your strategies regarding the following.
Provision of training:
I am happy to provide more hands-on support at first, but the goal would be for my student to develop independence, confidence and skills as they progress through the PhD.
Progression monitoring and management:
I am here for advice and guidance to help you reach the goals you set for yourself, but I will also mentor and encourage development opportunities where I can.
Communication:
I typically work “normal” hours, but sometimes I will email outside of working hours – if this happens I will not expect a reply until working hours as I like to promote a healthy work/life balance as much as possible
How often do your PhD students see you in a timetabled group meeting?
At least once per fortnight

A mixture of face to face or via video chat or telephone.

Yes, I am usually contactable for an instant response (if required) on every working day.
My expectation of PhD student working patterns?
Certain tasks in my lab need to occur at set times, and students need to be able to commit to a rota/timetable shared with other members of the team.
Notice for feedback (e.g. on reports, manuscript drafts, thesis chapters)?
I need at least 2 week’s notice to provide feedback on written work of up to 5000 words.
