How to Get into Literary Translation

Thinking about a career in literary translation? Join Warwick PEN and the English department’s MA in Literary Translation Studies for a discussion about the importance of literary translators, how to make contacts and who to approach as well as practical tips on translating.

The panel will be composed of:

Sophie Hughes – Sophie is a professional translator from English to Spanish. Her translations include Umami by Laia Jufresa (2016) and Affections by Rodrigo Hasbun (2016).

Rosalind Harvey - Rosalind is an acclaimed literary translator of contemporary Hispanic writing. She has worked on books by such authors as Enrique Vila-Matas, Héctor Abad, Elvira Navarro, Guadalupe Nettel and Juan Pablo Villalobos. She also teaches translation at Warwick.

Theodora Danek – Theodora is the Writers in Translation Programme Manager at English PEN where she works to promote literature in translation in the UK.

Chantal Wright - Chantal is Associate Professor at Warwick where she convenes the MA in Literary Translation Studies programme. Chantal is also a literary translator working from German and French into English.

Maureen Freely – Professor Maureen is currently the Head of the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies at Warwick. She is also President of English PEN and is a prolific literary translator mainly from Turkish into English.
