New Director for Warwick Clinical Trials Unit is Announced

Professor Gavin Perkins will become the new Director of Warwick Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) from 1 October 2017. He was appointed after an international search and it is a source of great pride for us that Gavin, who is already an established member of CTU, was the best candidate for this key post in the Medical School. Gavin is a NIHR Senior Investigator and has a strong track record of running a number of complex trials leading to changes in clinical practice. He is a clinical academic with an interest in emergency and critical care and continues to practice as a clinician whilst also managing a very busy portfolio as a researcher and as a teacher.

Sudhesh Kumar, Dean of Medicine said ‘Warwick Clinical Trials Unit is an outstanding research unit that conducts research of the highest standard. It is already one of the best units in the country I am delighted Prof Gavin Perkins has been appointed to lead CTU in its next phase of growth and development. He is an outstanding investigator and is internationally renowned for his work and I look forward to working with him. I would like to thank Professor Martin Underwood who has led the CTU ably and helped recently to establish and grow a trials unit group up at University Hospital in our Clinical Sciences Research Laboratory site which is proving to be very successful.'

‘Warwick Clinical Trials Unit pulls together an outstanding team of health service researchers, methodologists, clinicians, trial managers and support staff. I am absolutely delighted to be offered the opportunity to lead such a great team. With the ever changing face of the research landscape, I look forward to working with colleagues to tackle the challenges ahead. Together I am confident we can build on and extend the success seen to date.’ Said Professor Gavin Perkins.
