Biography

Bob Ireland qualified at the University of Liverpool in 1965 and formed a group practice in Liverpool in 1970 where he was senior partner until 1995. He was a part-time Lecturer in restorative dentistry at Liverpool until 1995 when he was appointed Professor of Primary Dental Care and Director of the School of Dental Therapy. In 2001 he was appointed Honorary Senior Research Fellow at The University of Liverpool. He joined the staff at The University of Warwick in 2008. He has been the UK partner in international research projects in dental informatics with the ORQUEST (Advanced Informatics in Medicine) Programme and the EUROQUAL Programme for the development of quality care in orthodontics. He has edited and co-authored textbooks for both dental hygienists and dental nurses and edited and co-authored The Oxford Dictionary of Dentistry (1st & 2nd Editions). He has 43 refereed publications and over 700 citations. He was formerly an External Examiner at Trinity College and a presiding examiner for the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses. He was until 2018, a professional member of the GDC Dental Complaints Service. He is currently Honorary Professorial Teaching Fellow at Warwick Medical School.
