Clinical interests:

Paediatric orthopaedics and trauma – i.e. bone and joint surgery in children

My interests lie in the generality of paediatric orthopaedics and musculoskeletal trauma in children. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • developmental dysplasia of the hip
  • congenital talipes equinovarus (clubfeet) and other neonatal disorders
  • hip disorders in the older child (including slipped upper femoral epiphyses, Perthes’ disease and the later sequelae of DDH)
  • cerebral palsy including gait analysis
  • acquired foot disorders and the later sequelae of clubfeet

My trauma interests are wide ranging and include:

  • supracondylar fractures of the humerus
  • femoral fracture treatment
  • elbow injuries in childhood
  • the multiply injured child (including pre-hospital and trauma room care)

Research interests:

Research interests include medical education (as a research topic) particularly the structured teaching and assessment of surgical trainees; injury prevention in children; outcome measures in orthopaedics; the provision and timing of paediatric trauma surgery; the influence of gait analysis on decision making in children with cerebral palsy.
