Research Interests

Research completed by Stephanie has focused on a range of long-term conditions; she has conducted studies with patients who have cystic fibrosis, heart failure, diabetes, eating disorders and cleft palate. Her work at the Royal College of Nursing Research Institute centres on the development of studies that will inform the compassionate care literature, which she anticipates will benefit those receiving and those providing healthcare.

Biography

Stephanie Tierney is a health services researcher, with a particular interest in qualitative methods, although she has also worked on published systematic reviews. She undertook a degree in Journalism Studies, followed by a MA in Disability Studies and a PhD in Medical Sciences, which focused on the care of young people with anorexia nervosa. After her PhD, Stephanie was employed for several years by the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work at the University of Manchester. Whilst at Manchester, she gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Psychology and worked for the Research Design Service.
