This module will provide anaesthetists with the essential tools to identify anaesthetic risks, reduce errors in anaesthetic care, to minimise the consequences of those errors to patients and staff, and to reduce the human and financial consequences of litigation. At the end of the module, you will be able to identify and apply strategies to minimise risk; use education to minimise risk and be aware of the consequences of critical events and their sequelae
At the end of this course you will be able to:
In depth knowledge of the risks and critical events associated with anaesthesia and to apply the theoretical knowledge to formulate strategies to deal with the events.
Understand and enhance their theoretical knowledge and principals of non-technical skills and the application of these skills in the work place
Enhance the knowledge of the principals of the airway assessment, applied anatomy of the airway and airway management. To apply this theoretical knowledge to plan an airway training programme to practicing professionals.
Understand the theory of risk management and apply the knowledge to reduce risk
Understand the uses of medical simulation both as an training- and assessment tool
This module will consist of 30 hours of structured learning activity, as lectures and seminars over one week.
