Aims and Learning Outcomes

Thsi module promotes the development of reflective and innovative practice to  support parenting during pregnancy and the first two years of life

  • A critical understanding of the transition to parenthood including the factors that influence infant mental health during the pre and post-natal periods
  • A critical understanding of the multidisciplinary evidence base in relation to infant socio-emotional health including an understanding of research from developmental psychology; neurobiology; genetics; and psychoanalysis etc
  • A critical understanding, using an ecological-systems framework, of the dynamic influences on early parenting
  • An understanding of the theoretical principles underpinning the early identification and support of infants and families within their communities
  • An understanding of the major theoretical models underpinning intervention during the peri-natal period
