Joining Chemistry for a live chat - FAQ
Thinking about studying Chemistry?
We are hosting online live chats where you can speak to our course director, admission tutor and the current Chemistry students, who will be happy to answer any of your questions about Chemistry at Warwick.
What is a live chat?
A live chat is your opportunity to find out more about our degrees. Our live chats will be managed by staff and students from our department. These sessions are open to all and enable UK, EU and international prospective students to ask questions relating to our Chemistry courses.
Who am I messaging?
Each undergraduate live chat is administered by an academic member of staff who teaches Chemistry. At the beginning of the live chat session, the academic member of staff will introduce themselves to you, so you will know who you are speaking to.
What questions should I ask?
You might want to find out more about what courses we offer, what modules you might study, assessment methods at Warwick, projects, and opportunities available beyond the classroom. This is your chance to ask us any of your questions.

Biology/Medicine: Routes To Medicine With Professor Kate Owen & Dr Nick Hopcroft
Prof Kate Owen and Dr Nick Hopcroft from Warwick Medical School will discuss what makes a good doctor and describe the different options for pursuing a medical career, including undergraduate medical degrees and graduate-entry medicine. They will describe courses that can lead to a range of medicine-related careers, whilst keeping the option of studying to be a doctor open. They will also give insights into what it’s like to study medicine and the support their university offers to non-medical undergraduates interested in going on to study graduate-entry medicine.

Chemistry taster session: Machine Learning for Drug Design with Professor Gabriele Sosso
Prof Gabriele Sosso, from the Department of Chemistry, will be running an interactive talk aimed at A-Level (or equivalent) Chemistry students about Machine Learning for Drug Design.
Machine learning is increasingly shaping modern science, and drug discovery is no exception. With chemical space containing millions of possible compounds, the ability to predict which molecules are worth synthesizing is becoming a crucial tool for researchers. In this talk, we will explore how machine learning can assist in identifying promising drug candidates by leveraging existing datasets and computational models.
The discussion will connect key concepts from A-level Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology, such as molecular structure, solubility, and statistical models, to the challenges of pharmaceutical research. We will also examine the limitations of machine learning, addressing common misconceptions and highlighting where human expertise remains essential.
By the end of the talk, you will have an understanding of how computational approaches complement experimental drug design and how machine learning is being integrated into the broader landscape of chemical and biomedical research.
Session is a taster session aimed at year 11/12 students who are interested in finding out more about Chemistry at University of Warwick
