Why Chemistry with Scientific Writing?

How to communicate science is a challenging topic; you may need to explain the structure of a leaf to a seven-year-old one day, and report the very latest research to the world via scientific journals the next. Both rely not only on subject knowledge but also the ability to effectively communicate often complex scientific concepts to others. This MSc aims to give you the English Language skills necessary to communicate science and to effectively apply these skills in a range of scenarios.

Course Structure

The course spans 1 year, with the first 20 weeks being lecture-based, providing you with a diverse toolbox in scientific writing to complete a successful 24-week research project.

Terms 1 and 2 (20 weeks):

  • Writing Extended Scientific Articles
  • Writing Focuses Scientific Articles and Reports
  • Communicating Science to Different Audiences
  • Transferrable Skills
  • 5 other MSc level modules from the wide selection offered by the Chemistry Department

Research Project (24 weeks):
Undertake a project in our world-leading research groups.

Entry Requirements:
All applications are considered on individual merit. Typically Upper second class honours (or equivalent) in Chemistry or a related subject.

English Language:
IELTS 6.5

Location of Study:
Primarily at the University of Warwick but may include a placement at another location.
