2019/20 Entry requirements

Our typical entry requirements for all of our undergraduate courses are given below.


A levels

Offers are typically based on three subjects at A level, one of which must be Chemistry.

MChem: AAA - AAB

EITHER AAA to include Chemistry and a second science (from Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Geology or Statistics)

OR

AAB to include Chemistry and two further science subjects (from Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Geology or Statistics).

You must also achieve a pass in the science practical if your science A level includes a separate practical assessment.

Offers exclude General Studies and Critical Thinking.

BSc: AAB-ABB

EITHER AAB to include Chemistry and a second science (from Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Geology or Statistics)

OR

ABB to include Chemistry and two further science subjects (from Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Geology or Statistics).

You must also achieve a pass in the science practical if your science A level includes a separate practical assessment.

Offers exclude General Studies and Critical Thinking.


International Baccalaureate

MChem: 38 - 36 points

EITHER 38 points overall to include 6 in Higher Level Chemistry and 6 at Higher Level in a second science subject (from Mathematics, Physics or Biology)

OR

36 points overall to include 6 in Higher Level Chemistry and 6, 6 at Higher Level in two further science subjects (from Maths, Physics or Biology).

BSc: 36 - 34 points

EITHER 36 points overall to include 6 at Higher Level in Chemistry and 5 at Higher Level in a second science subject (from Mathematics, Physics or Biology)

OR

34 points overall to include 6 at Higher Level in Chemistry and 5, 5 at Higher Level in two further science subjects (from Mathematics, Physics or Biology)


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

We welcome all applicants with non-standard qualifications or relevant experience, and applicants with other
internationally recognised qualifications.

Access Courses.

HE Diploma (QAA-recognised) including appropriate subjects with distinction grades in
level 3 units. Candidates must meet essential subject requirements. Please contact the Department of
Chemistry before application.

Widening Participation.

Widening participation offers are always available, and we highly encourage
applications in this area.

The University may make adjusted (contextual) offers to UK based applicants in certain circumstances.
