Antonis Mouhtaropoulos

INTRODUCTION

I am currently a part-time Ph.D. student at the Department of Computer Science, University of Warwick under the supervision of leading researcher Professor Chang-Tsun Li. I am a member of the Digital Forensics Laboratory and the Methodologies and Applications research division. My research interests lie in the overlap of Information Security, Digital Forensics and Economics. I am examining the application of proactive computer-system forensics across organisations in the fields of event reconstruction, event sequencing and data carving. In addition, I am interested in examining the application of Computational Intelligence and Machine Learning (Bayesian Networks, Regression Models, Decision Trees, Markov Networks) techniques in Digital Forensics.


BACKGROUND

Prior to commencing my doctoral research, I received a B.Sc. [Honours] in Economics [2003] from the School of Management, University of Bradford [U.K.] and an M.Sc. in Computer Science [2004] from the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Bradford [U.K.]. Additionally, I have also received a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Transferable Skills from the University of Warwick (MOAC Doctoral Training Centre).

Since 2010, I have been employed at Metropolitan College [Thessaloniki, Greece], as the Head of Faculty of Computing, Architecture, and Engineering. Metropolitan College is an affiliate institute of the University of London, the University of East London, the University of Portsmouth and Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, UK. My main responsibilities involve both teaching and coordinating the undergraduate programmes in Computer Science, Civil/Electrical Engineering, and Architecture.

Between 2007-2010, I had been working as a lecturer in Information Systems at DEI College [Thessaloniki, Greece], affiliate institute of the University of London and the University of Central Lancashire. To date, I have been the primary instructor in both postgraduate and undergraduate level and have also partly designed assignments and lecture material.

RESEARCH

Digital forensics deals with the application of scientific knowledge for collecting, analysing, and presenting legal evidence. While most organisations rely on planning the post-incident investigation and procedures by developing an Incident Response Plan, they do not consider on preparing systems, procedures and staff before an incident occurs. Such preparation and planning is defined as Forensic Readiness and involves the identification, preservation and storage of digital evidence.

The main focal point of my research is the evaluation of proactive systems in organisations by the conduction of a mixed methods approach analysis. The analysis will evaluate an organisation's ablity to collect and use digital evidence by assessing technical, economic, management and legal issues.
