Background

I graduated with an integrated Masters degree in 2016, achieving a first classification in Mathematics & Physics. I am now a MPhil/PhD student in the Centre for Doctoral Training in Urban Science, a programme based in the Warwick Institute for the Science of Cities (WISC).

Research

My research uses the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model to simulate atmospheric behaviour at the sub-kilometre scale covering the size of a metropolitan area or convective storm complex.

WRF is capable of simulating these events with local grid resolution below 100 metres, making the calculations relevant to urban environments. To validate the calculations, a selection of the simulations would be compared to local atmospheric data collected by observing towers / skyscrapers overlooking the urban environment using temperature sensitive infrared cameras and LIDAR velocity measurements.

The reason for using WRF is that the mesoscale version of the Met Office’s Unified Model has recently been found to fail in this regime in comparisons with radar rainfall data, but comparisons between WRF and radar data gave excellent agreement. This would provide a database which can be made available to the WISC programme. This could then be utilised to improve preparations for these events and mitigate the damage they cause.

I am working under the supervision of Professor Robert Kerr, and funded by the EPSRC.

Office

My office is located over in Senate House, and can be found here.

Please use the main doors to Senate House, then go up to the first floor via the stairs behind the white doors. Subsequently enter the doors labelled "North Wing" and proceed to the open desk area adjacent to SMR 1.14.

Teaching
