Diamond Science & Technology 4 Year Programme

There is a three stage application procedure for the Centre for Doctoral Training in Diamond Science and Technology. The 4 year Studentships are made up of a 1 Year MSc at Warwick + a linked 3 Year PhD at one of the partner institutions - you get two degrees!

The DST CDT provides funding for the 4 year programme to UK and EU students (students must have resided in the UK for three years prior to the start of their course in order to be eligible).

These 4 year studentships pay a stipend to cover maintenance as well as paying the university fees and provide funding for mini-project, PhD travel expenses and research support. The stipends are at the standard research council rates (for 2018/19 that is £14,777 per annum).

In exceptional cases for outstanding candidates funding may be available to overseas students. For notes on eligibility for EPSRC funding please click here. A range of information pertaining to Studentships can be found on the EPSRC website.

Stage 1: Initial Expression of Interest

Fill in the Stage 1 Application Form, attaching a copy of your CV and indicating which PhD project(s) you are interested in.

We will respond as quickly as possible and guide you through the full application process.

Stage 2: Contact Potential Supervisors at the PhD Host University (Years 2 - 4)

Contact potential supervisors (listed on the PhD Projects page) who can tell you about the project, arrange visits etc. and advise you regarding the application process at the PhD host university. But don't delay in completing the application to Warwick (See Stage 3).

Remember that the PhD will start in year 2 of the 4 year programme so you will be applying for deferred entry to the PhD.

Stage 3: Apply to Warwick

You must apply to Warwick for the first Year MSc in Diamond Science and Technology leading to the PhD. Applications are managed through the University's central graduate school admissions process.

Please email (dst dot admin at warwick dot ac dot uk) and we will send you information that will enable you to avoid paying the application fee.

After completing the form, if you have provided us with an email address for your referees, they will automatically be sent a request for a reference. It is therefore critically important that their email address is correct. Alternatively, your referees can post a hard copy on official letter headed paper, with a signature, to the Postgraduate Admissions address.

You will also need to submit original transcripts from your undergraduate degree(s) (or officially certified copies thereof). For candidates yet to graduate, offers of studentships are dependent on them obtaining at least the equivalent of a UK 2:1 degree.

In addition, if your first language is not English, you will also need to submit evidence of your competency in English (IELTS 6.5 or equivalent required). The University offers pre-sessional language training support, which also allows you to get used to the campus, learn about the UK Higher Education system and the way we do things here. For more information see the Pre-sessional Course pages of the Centre for Applied Linguistics.

Supporting documents can be submitted during the application process or can be sent electronically through the graduate school portal.

Your application will be passed to the course directors who will decide whether you will receive an offer of a place. This will take effect from the following September/October. If you are accepted on the DST CDT your MSc and subsequent PhD will be funded (e.g. Fees, Stipend, travel, etc.).
