This survey is aimed at professional people in the construction industry, and will determine peoples attitudes towards efficiency in the industry and how they are adapting to the changes in the industry. The survey has been divided into two parts, since most people will only have an understanding of one part; below is a short paragraph of each part, to give you an idea of what that part entails.

The survey should take no longer than 10-15 miniutes to complete.

Part A

As most people know, Sir John Egan and his associates produced a report in 1998 called Rethinking Construction; this report looked at the main problems with efficiency within the construction industry; thus the task force challenged the industry. They set several targets which were aimed at improving the areas worst affected by inefficiencies. This part of the survey will look at the effect of the report on the industry and how people’s attitudes towards efficiency have changed over the past decade.

Part B

Measuring performance and benchmarking was one of the key issues raised in the Rethinking Construction report, thus the industry introduced 10 ‘headline’ Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as a way of measuring efficiency in the industry and as a means to benchmark companies. This part of the survey will look at whether and companies instigate KPIs and what has been the effect of this in terms of efficiency.
