WiNG is an MEng Group project researching into Personal Navigation, within the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick.
Navigation generally implies GPS, however dense environments mean that Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are not accuracy enough – with GPS only providing an accuracy of up to 7.8 m. Dense urban environments, such as inside buildings, often struggle to provide a line-of-sight with satellites for a reliable and accurate position.
WiNG aims to provide a solution to this problem by integrating inertial sensors into a navigation device. Monitoring the gait and inertial activity in motion makes navigation indoors possible.
