LNG Safety

Substantial development has been carried out within the frame of the in-house version of the OpenFOAM code for consequence analysis related to LNG safety. In the final stage of the project and with additional support from other resources, these will be consolidated into a single in-house version to be named as LNGFOAM for predicting:

  • LNG pool spread, evaporation and dispersion following LNG spill on land and water [1,2]
  • LNG rollover [3-5]
  • Flashing cryogenic jets, extension to LNG and validation are yet to be carried out [6,7]
  • Vapour cloud formation from LNG/other liquid fuel cascade [8]
  • LNG pool fires without the need to specify the empirically recommended mass burning rates for both LNG fires on land and water [9]
