Workshop: Modelling Mixing Mechanisms in 1D Water Network Models

Day 1 ‐ 16th January 2018, Scarman, University of Warwick

This will be a stand‐alone open workshop presenting invited state‐of‐the‐art summary papers relating to
mixing in water networks. Papers will primarily be from named Project Partners (see below). This will act
as an introduction between Partners, who form the International Steering Committee (ISC), ahead of
discussions the following day. It will be advertised as widely as possible, encouraging all interested parties:
academics, industry, utilities and regulators, to attend and comment on needs within this research area.
The programme will be developed around a selection of 15 min individual presentations from Partners.

During the afternoon break there will be an opportunity for other attendees to suggest topics of interest,
followed by a final open feedback and discussion session.

Day 2 ‐ 17th January 2018 (by invitation only)

The Case for Support (7/June/16) suggested areas of limited knowledge around: low turbulence, 3D shapes
and unsteady flows within three network types, namely: water supply, urban drainage and rivers. Whilst
successful in securing funding, the overall proposal has had limited exposure to critical scientific or
practical engineering review. This workshop will build on ISC members’ knowledge, incorporate feedback
and ideas from the previous day’s event and generate a thought leadership “White Paper” (a Forum paper
for IAHR journal) on the state‐of‐the‐art and future requirements for describing mixing processes within 1D
network models. It will also provide an opportunity to discuss, and develop the focus for, objectives 2, 4 &
