Research Interests

My current role is to provide research support to Prof Laura Green's team.

Recent research includes looking at welfare indicators for ruminants in abattoirs, and exploring whether membership of farm assurance, organic certification and herd health schemes is associated with greater compliance with welfare legislation.

Previous epidemiological research includes looking for factors associated with fin erosion in farmed Salmon (Stirling University), feather pecking in chickens (University of Bristol), and also estimating the population of unwanted cats and dogs in the UK (University of Bristol).

I have a general interest in animal welfare, including topics:

  • Early-life programming effects of stress and pain
  • Maternal behaviour
  • Emotions and cognition
  • Temperament traits and personality
  • Welfare assessment in farmed animals
  • Welfare of cats and dogs in rescue centres
  • Working dog behaviour and welfare
  • Biography
