Finding seeds in the PRESTA project database

An online version of the PRESTA project database can be found here.

Enter your user name and password and click on presta_project_db_version_7.

Filemaker front page

To search for resources for a gene of interest click on NEW GENE and then click on Continue (which will appear in the top right tool bar after clicking NEW GENE).

Once the page for your gene has appeared, click on the Resources button in the bottom right. This button can be temperamental - make sure that you hold the mouse over the centre of the bottom of the button (!) and get a hand sign. If nothing happens there are no resources for that gene. If there are resources for your gene you will get the following page:

Resources main page

This page provides a summary of the seed stocks that we have. To find out more about a seed stock click on the ID number in the first column. This Resource ID number is used to track all results and resources relating to this seed stock.

Externally generated resources

Seed line page

This page provides you with a lot of information about externally generated resources including:

  • The resource ID number (in the top left).
  • The external name of this line (e.g. salk, sail etc.).
  • Who ordered the line (may be useful to help you track down the seed stock.
  • The NASC code in case the seed stock is missing and you need to reorder it.
  • The zygosity of the line if it has been genotyped (all lines should be labelled as "heterozygous", "homozygous" or "unknown").
  • The primers used to genotype the line.
  • If the seed stock is in the barcode database (in Addition notes box). This information is required when requesting seed stocks.
  • Any phenotyping results that are available, with references to where the data is stored.

Locally generated resources

Local seed page

This page provides you with a lot of information about externally generated resources including:

  • The resource ID number (in the top left).
  • The type of line (e.g. 35S constitutive).
  • The vector used to generate the line.
  • The local line name. Required when requesting seed from the stocks (note: none of the TP lines are in the barcode database but they can still be requested).
  • The plant resistance - required if you are doing further selections.
  • The zygosity of the line (all lines should be labelled as "heterozygous" or "homozygous").
  • The generation numbe of the line
  • Any phenotyping results that are available, with references to where the data is stored.
