Esther Ogunniyi

Background

Following my bachelor degree in Agriculture, I continued my academic career to three-year research masters in the College of Resources and Environment, Northwest A&F University, Yangling, China, where I obtained MSc in Agricultural Science under the supervision of Prof Tian Xiaohong. Because of my passion for research, I enrolled for PhD in Plant and Environmental Sciences at the University of Warwick in September 2013.

My PhD research involves examining the potential of inorganic, organic matter and their mixes on nutrient and water retention of sandy soils, as well as sequestration of organic carbon. Laboratory experiments and field trials were used to assess possible effects on crop growth and yield. The work seeks to understand how the mixes influence soil properties that are involved in regulating water and nutrient holding in soils.
