Warwick Mathematician Adam Boddison has been working with local artist Lesley Whelan on a project which explores the representations of art and maths within a park setting.

The Equate project, funded by the Arts Council England, considers artistic representations of mathematics that can be found in the Coventry War Memorial Park.

 

The Mathematics Research Centre Houses on the Gibbet Hill campus were recently awarded with Grade II* listed building status by English Heritage. The Grade II* listed status sits between Grade I buildings (those of exceptional interest) and Grade II (those of special interest, warranting every effort to preserve them). Grade II* refers to particularly important buildings of more than special interest.

Warwick students have an honourable tradition of social engagement and of using the benefits of their education to help those who are not as fortunate.  Thanks to the support of alumni and friends of Warwick, WMI students are regularly taking part in a scheme to teach mathematics to children in the townships of South Africa...

Second Life, the internet-based 3D virtual world,has become a worldwide phenomenon in little more than four years. Launched in 2003, it now has 13 million registered account users. Users or ‘residents’ of Second Life can explore, socialize, take part in group activities and create and trade virtual property and services. With almost unlimited opportunities for interaction, universities around the world are beginning to see the possibilities of using this technology for teaching students in new and interesting ways. Dr Dave Wood of the Mathematics Institute is leading the way with the creation of Warwick's virtual presence there...

Warwick Mathematics Institute is launching Aftermath, a brand new magazine for alumni and friends.  The magazine will include a section called Class Notes which will give you the opportunity to tell your former classmates what you have been up to since you graduated.  If you would like to let your friends know about your activities, send us your updates and a photo and we will include them in the first issue.
