The 13 national NIHR CLAHRCs have three distinct pillars of work:
- To undertake high-quality applied research.
- To undertake evidence-based implementation that is responsive to and in partnership with their collaborating organisations, patients, carers and the public.
- To increase the country’s capacity and capability to conduct high-quality applied health research, while understanding implementation and improvement science thereby creating pathways to impact.
The CLAHRC initiatives are working together to demonstrate national impact across these three domains and have published a series of national documents:
| The projects described here introduce you to some of the highlights of the CLAHRC research programme from all 13 of the CLAHRCs across England. These projects have been selected for their excellence and their current and likely future impact. The selection includes examples of CLAHRCs working individually with their local partners, as well as examples of cross-CLAHRC collaboration. A recent review showed that CLAHRCs have collaborated on 71 projects/major pieces of work. We anticipate that these collaborations will grow exponentially in the future, building upon successful research production and implementation across the country. NIHR CLAHRC research is saving the NHS millions and helping to save and improve the lives of patients, carers and the public across England and further afield. We would like to thank all of the CLAHRCs for sharing their work, and the staff who supported the development of this brochure. This report maps the role of the NIHR CLAHRCs in England as they seek to support, develop and sustain Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals (NMAHP’s) as clinical academics and provides insight into successful models of capacity building and recommendations for further development. The CLAHRC West Midlands contributed the following case study to this report:
