Title: Improving breast cancer screening detection rates through understanding, modelling, and adapting patterns of radiologist performance
Summary: This research aims to reduce mortality from breast cancer and the anxiety associated with false positive recalls by improving performance of radiologists reading screening mammograms. The research aims to achieve this by measuring, modelling, and adapting radiologists’ performance with time since a break or interruption. This is an understudied area with the potential to make large improvements to performance with minimal cost or disruption. The research methods used will include performance evaluation using Jackknife Free Response Receiver Operating Characteristic (JAFROC) analysis, and a Randomised Controlled Trial of an intervention with the potential to improve performance.
