Warwick Medical School part of new NIHR INSIGHT programme – Inspiring Students into Research
Warwick Medical School is proud to be part of the new NIHR INSIGHT programme: ‘Inspiring Students into Research’, working with other higher education institutions, the NHS, and local authority partners in the West Midlands. This £4.6M investment from NIHR provides an opportunity for newly qualified and early career health and care professionals (excluding medical and dentist professionals) to undertake research training leading to a Masters qualification. Warwick Medical School has successfully secured studentships for three of its Masters programmes through the programme: the new MRes Health and Care, iheed MSc Clinical Research and iheed MSc Public Health. Dr Jenny Harlock and Dr Michael Backhouse are leading the programme for Warwick Medical School.
Dr Jenny Harlock said: “Working with health professionals and our partners in the NHS to develop impactful research is at the heart of what we do at Warwick Medical School. We're delighted that this programme will expand opportunities to work with a wider range of health and social care professionals, many of whom may not have previously considered or had the opportunity to develop a career in research. The programme is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their research skills and engage with a diverse community of professionals and academics, and we look forward to supporting their journey towards future research leadership”.
Dr Michael Backhouse said: “As health and care professionals we're always looking for opportunities to improve the care we provide. There are now more opportunities to improve care through research than ever before and this is reflected in the range of research careers available. The NIHR INSIGHT Programme at Warwick provides the opportunity and support for health and care professionals to take the first steps in their research careers at a medical school with a track record of world leading research. The courses we offer provide flexibility for busy professionals to balance their studies with their work and personal lives, and we encourage interested candidates to explore what Warwick Medical School has to offer”.
