MB ChB student wins Royal College of Psychiatrists' 2025 Medical Student Essay Prize
Congratulations to MB ChB student Grace Fisher, who has won the 2025 Medical Student Essay Prize from the Royal College of Psychiatrists' Faculty of Perinatal Psychiatry.Her essay, “The Ripple Effect: A Personal and Academic Reflection on Intergenerational Perinatal Mental Health,” explored both her own familial experience of perinatal mental health across generations and the current evidence base surrounding this vital topic.
Grace says: "Perinatal mental health remains a deeply under-recognised area within the NHS — around 1 in 4 women experience mental health difficulties during or after pregnancy, yet services remain fragmented and underfunded. Through this essay, I wanted to highlight not only the individual impact but also the intergenerational consequences when this care gap persists."
