Envision system is an epifluorescent light microscope with DIC capabilities produced by MediaCybernetics. The microscope is based on Olympus BX5 upright base and fine-tuned for imaging of developing Nematoda worms. In particular microscope is equipped with NanoTherm 3 cooling system, which allows keeping developing embryos at low temperature during imaging. Moreover, light path of the system is fully motorized which allows rapid imaging of multiple fluorescent channels over long period of time.
Wide-field or epi-fluorescence microscope is the most common tool in bioimaging. Due to its low cost and relatively simple imaging process wide-field systems are the primary choice for routine imaging of mm~μm scale objects (embryos, cells, cell organelles). Moreover, resolution limit of the system could be improved by post-acquisition removal of out of focus blur (deconvolution). Resolution of properly deconvolved image could be comparable with confocal systems (300~500 nm in XY and ~600 nm in Z).
