The initial publication of this Cochrane review in 2012 showed that trials of email use for clinical communication were poorly conducted and that it was not possible to draw conclusions about the impact of email on important factors such as patient safety, impact on workload and patient satisfaction. We have commenced an update of this review to examine studies published more recently, to reflect the increased interest in this area. We hope to complete and publish the update by late 2017.
