My research interests are primarily around educational technology and digital technologies in resource poor settings. My research activities include the use of virtual patients to support clinical decision making. I have significant experience working in Malawi and Tanzania as part of the ETATMBA project funded by the European Commission, enhancing the training and professionalisation of clinical officers.
I am a Professor at the University of Warwick Medical School in the UK. My main responsibility in the department is course director of BSc Health and Medical Sciences. I am also Deputy Chair of the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Medicine. I currently supervise PhD research students in the fields of technology enhanced learning including online learning interventions, simulation including virtual patients, and global health education. I also supervise a number of MMedEd dissertation students on a diverse range of clinical education topics. I have a strong interest in global health education and have worked in Malawi and Tanzania to develop and lead a training course on leadership, service improvement, and values based practice for clinical officers in maternal and child health.
