With nearly 2 million patients now requiring an oral anticoagulant in the UK, more patients than ever are being managed in the community.
This one day course is intended as an overview of the principles underpinning anticoagulation management for those health care professionals (GPs, nurses, pharmacists) just starting out in practice.
The course provides practical knowledge and hands-on experience of point of care devices and dosing software as well as introducing clinical guidelines, audit procedures and protocol development. It is an ideal opportunity to begin to learn about the complexities involved in running an anticoagulation service.
• Knowledge of the principles of anticoagulation therapy, indications for use, side effects and interactions
• Knowledge of the principles of point of care INR tests and quality assurance
• Knowledge of the professional guidelines for management of oral anticoagulation, audit procedures and protocol development.
This course is suitable for GPs, Practice Nurses, Hospital nurses, Pharmacists and all Health Care Professionals involved in, or planning to be involved in, clinical management of patients receiving Anticoagulation therapy.
Health Care Assistants, Assistant Practitioners and Pharmacy Technicians may find the Anticoagulation Management for HCAs and Assistant Practitioners course more appropriate.
