Leamington Homeless ShelterLWS Night Shelter logo

The LWS Night Shelter, is a shelter offering hot food and a place to sleep every Friday and Saturday night for those who wish to use it. The shelter mainly accommodates for the homeless and vulnerably-housed which includes rough sleepers, sofa-surfers, those in unsuitable accommodation and people who just want the social element.

Susan Rutherford and Vishal Chauhan (students who graduated from WMS in 2012), set the shelter up as a Community Interest Company in October 2015 and opened for the first night in mid-January 2016. The original plan was to operate as a winter shelter, but due to demand from guests and volunteers, the shelter has been kept running the whole year through so far.

Since opening, the shelter has welcomed over 100 different guests, with an average of 30 guests coming in a night, 8-18 of whom stay the night to sleep. Most of the food used is donated from local companies such as Aubrey Allen, Haddie & Trilby, TJ's Bar and Grill and Morrison's. The LWS shelter also receives clothing, food and toiletries from the general public and other individual groups.

The volunteers who help at the shelter are made up of both students and non-students, and spend a large amount of time and effort supporting the shelter and the residents.
