Health Psychology

  • Module Aims
  • The overarching aim of the module is to provide a learning context that promotes awareness of how core psychological constructs can be applied to inform medical practice across a broad range of clinical domains. In particular, the module aims to provide students with an opportunity to:
    1. develop an understanding of the theories, research methods and evidence-based practices of health psychology;
    2. explore core psychological influences on health, illness and health-related behaviours and decisions, from both patient and clinician perspectives;
    3. recognise that the adjunctive use of health psychology theory, research and practices can enhance the clinical effectiveness of medical practice;
    4. develop an orientation to study, practice and continued professional development that is inclusive, self-reflective, questioning and responsive.
