Workshops rotation

  • Basic A-E / Triage & Scene Management + Advanced A-E
    Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure...
An A-E assessment tells you most of what you need to know about an acutely-unwell patient, and doing it quickly & effectively can make a huge difference to their treatment and outcome. If you need an introduction or refresher to this critical skill, the basic A-E workshop is for you.
For those comfortable with A-Es, join our advanced workshop to expand what you know and learn how to triage and manage a scene. This will be particularly useful for those looking to lead the response to our mass casualty simulation.
  • CPR & Haemorrhage Control
  • FAST Ultrasound Scanning
Ultrasound is increasingly an essential bedside investigation. Nowhere is this truer than A+E. Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (FAST) scan is a point-of-care ultrasound exam performed to aid rapid decision making.
In this station, you will receive training in techniques of FAST scanning and have a chance to try out FAST scans on each other. Additionally, we will be teaching vascular access using ultrasound and have a station to test your recognition of pathology on ultrasound.
  • Airway Management
Airway compromise will quickly lead to death and disability in patients if not recognised and treated promptly. Hence, airway management is a key skill for emergency practitioners, who can employ a range of techniques from basic manoeuvres, to advanced video laryngoscopy.
A team from UHCW anaesthetics will be running a hands-on station to teach these vital skills and will also introduce some important considerations in the treatment of trauma-specific patients.
