Buddy Scheme

Psychiatry Buddy Scheme

Are you a medical student interested in a career in Psychiatry, or learning more about Psychiatry? If so, then the WMS buddy scheme might be for you! We match medical students to a Psychiatry trainee according to your particular interests, so that you can learn about Psychiatry from a current trainee: this might involve shadowing them on a clinical shift, going to a conference with them, helping with an audit or getting involved in some research with them. It's completely up to you and your Buddy!

Feedback from current participants:
“I have shadowed my Buddy in clinics, helped out with an audit and attended the RCPSYCH Annual conference-I would not have had these opportunities without the Buddy Scheme.”

“We have really enjoyed being part of the buddy scheme, and we know that our student buddies appear to have enjoyed it too. Angharad is still in close contact with her buddies at WMS, and is pleased to report that they are currently featuring prominently in the PsychSoc!”

How to get involved
The first buddy scheme launch was in Winter 2014, and we are aiming to organise a re-launch every year around December / January. However, do let us know at any point if you're keen on getting involved as we may have some spare capacity at other times.

Who runs the scheme?
The buddy scheme is organised locally by two local Psychiatry Registrars: Angharad de Cates (who was a Warwick Academic Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry until February 2016) and Saba Mattar.

Who to contact?
Please contact Angharad de Cates (A.de-Cates@warwick.ac.uk) or the Buddy Scheme (psychiatrybuddyscheme@gmail.com) if you're interested in finding out more. We'd love to hear from both trainees and students!
