3rd Microsurgery Workshop

  • Guest speaker and practical session supervisors (ENT/ophthalmologist/orthopaedic hand surgeon)
  • Lecture from surgeon on surgical career path & microsurgery
  • 6 practical stations; At each station: 1 microscope, 2 microsuture kits, and suture materials
  • 24 medical student delegates in total, 12 per session; 1 delegates per station
  • 2 sessions - AM or PM
  • Microsuturing competition at the end of each session
  • Certificate of course attendance for delegates

A chance for students to test their hands in the fine art and skill of microsuturing

PROGRAMME: Morning session (09:00-12:00)/Afternoon session (13:00-16:00)

Registration & introductions: Lecture from guest speaker

Topic: Microsurgery, suturing & knots under the microscope

Practical session 1: Basic microsuturing techniques

Suturing on chicken thighs, grapes

Lecture 2: Advanced microsurgery techniques

Arterial and venous anastomoses

Practical session 2: Advanced microsurgery techniques

Simulate microvascular anastomosis

Microsuturing competition

Debrief & announce competition winner
