STEP was founded in october 2006. STEP aims to increase student access to the principles of trauma, emergency medicine and pre-hospital care. this will be achieved through lectures, seminars and practical workshops. STEP will also work to fund-raise for charities, sponsor teaching and foster links with organisations in this area.


the medical school 'news and events' web page describes STEP thus...

"Taking a great STEP forward: A voluntary group founded four months ago to give students more experience of emergency medicine has already signed up more than 100 members. Warwick Medical School’s Society of Trauma, Emergency medicine and Pre-hospital care (STEP) was created in October 2006. So far the student society has raised £200 from memberships and is donating the proceeds to Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance. STEP works with organisations such as St John’s Ambulance to give its members experience of emergency care fieldwork. Students are allowed to observe the medical care provided at a wide range of events from ice skating to rugby matches...." News and Events, 15th February 2007

step's first year...

A year since STEP was founded, STEP's work has included raising nearly £500 for the Air Ambulance, held lectures from the Professor of Emergency Medicine, the Air Ambulance and the British Red Cross, and has arranged for a number of medical students to observe the work of St John Ambulance and the British Red Cross in the field.

For the 2007/2008 academic year, STEP aims to build on this by offering lectures on trauma, emergency medicine and pre-hospital care free to all medical students....
