Microsurgery Workshop June 2012

  • Guest speaker and practical session supervisors (ENT/ophthalmologist/orthopaedic hand surgeon; TBC)
  • Lecture from surgeon on surgical career path & microsurgery
  • 6 practical stations; At each station: 1 microscope, 2 microsuture kits, and suture materials
  • 12 medical student delegates; 2 delegates per station
  • Microsuturing competition at the end of the session
  • Certificate of course attendance for delegates


5:00PM – 5:10PM: Introduction

5:10PM – 5:40PM Lecture from guest speaker: Microsurgery, suturing & knots under the microscope

5:40PM – 6:10PM Practical session 1: Suturing on skills boards (15 min per student)

6:10PM – 6:20PM Coffee & Tea

6:20PM – 6:50PM Practical session 2: Suturing on grapes (15 min per student)

6:50PM – 7:20PM Microsuturing competition 90 sec per student – as many sutures in grape as possible

7:20PM – 7:30PM Debrief & announce competition winner
