Theoretical and Computational Physics

Theoretical and computational research spans all the areas of physics covered by the department.

  • The Theoretical Physics Research Group offers projects in a wide variety of areas and has close links to Experimental Condensed Matter research groups in physics, as well as Complexity, Systems Biology and MOAC. This is the first port of call for theoretical projects in Physics.
  • The Centre for Scientific Computing supports a significant part of the theoretical work in Physics and the interdiciplinary centres.
  • Within Physics, computational projects are also available in the Surface, Interface and Thin Film Group, focusing on density functional theory calculations of surface atomic structures.
