Clerical Support for Postgraduates

The clerical staff support the research groups and administrative work of the department.

As a general rule, admin staff may be involved in the preparation of any material which would reflect the image and professionalism of the Department. This includes letters to external bodies, reports and papers for publication. It also includes sending and receiving email where the appropriate facilities are not available to the group.

Where a research group has the appropriate facilities for meeting the requirements, including laser printer output, then admin staff need not be involved if standards are met.

Our admin staff have many demands placed upon them, it would not be appropriate to ask them to carry out menial tasks such as photocopying or errands.
