Module 2: Introduction to Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Module Convenor: David Lurie

Aims and objectives

To provide the student with a basic understanding of the fundamental physics and methodology of magnetic resonance imaging.

Syllabus

The face-to-face lectures (4 hours) and tutorials (2 hours) will be given at the Kick-Off Training Workshop. These will be followed by lectures (2 hours) and a tutorial (1 hour) given over the Access Grid. The outline syllabus is as follows:

Magnetic field gradients, selective excitation, frequency encoding, introduction to phase encoding, 2DFT image acquisition + data processing, basic MRI pulse sequences and introduction to contrast mechanisms in MRI

Assessment

The assessment for the module can be down loaded from here.

The deadline for submission is Monday 12th March 2012
