EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Diamond Science and Technology
The University of Warwick leads a partnership of 8 universities and close to 30 companies to create anew Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Diamond Science and Technology. The training programme includes modules on all aspects of DST (e.g. synthesis, material science, modelling, characterisation, engineering, device integration and material processing, photonics, quantum, entrepreneurship etc.) in addition to transferable skills. Studentships (September 2014 start) are available fields as diverse as quantum computing and electrochemistry.
Once a physicist: Robin Cruddace
Robin Cruddace, formerly of the Warwick Diamond Group, is now a games developer at Games Workshop, which manufactures miniatures and miniature-based war games. Robin was the feature of the “Once a physicist” series in the November 2013 edition of Physics World. For the article click here.

Ben Green wins Diamond Conference Prize
Ben Green won the prize for the best talk by a young researcher at 2013 Diamond Conference. The paper (The N3 centre revisited) was chosen by a panel of industrial research scientists and won out against stiff competition. Ben has subsequently defended his PhD Thesis (external examiner Prof. Bob Jones, Exeter) and joined Element Six in June 2013 as a Research Scientist.
Chris Hartland wins JEOL Prize at RSC ESR Conference
The 2013 JEOL Student Prize Lecture competition at the RSC ESR Group Annual International Meeting was won by Christopher Hartland with a presentation on “EPR studies on oxygen doped CVD diamond.” The thumbnail image shows Dr Peter Meadows of JEOL (UK) Ltd presenting Chris with the JEOL Medal.
